Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko Review

Synopsis:
The story revolves around a highschool boy named Niwa Makoto. He lives with his aunt’s family since his parents are away on business. It is there where he meets his mysterious cousin of the same age Touwa Erio who happens to tie a futon mattress around her upper body and is a self-proclaimed alien. Her staple food is pizza. Erio had been missing for half a year and was found floating in the sea. She doesn't remember anything about what happened during that period of time, but she began to think that it was the act of an alien and wanders the neighbourhood wrapped in the futon.

Review:
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko was one of the few surprises that you would see for the spring season, but that is expected since there was a bigger lineup this season compared to most seasons nowadays. What surprised me the most was how the show was presented, and that there really was not a wasted moment with the animation. The way that the hair would sparkle on some of the girls was a nice touch to the overall animation of this show, and hopefully this show can be borrowed from other anime on how to make a girl look more important in some scenes. The comedy was funny although sometimes it did go a little overboard with Meme, and the same jokes she would use. The music had a nice touch to it during episodes and was well placed during the whole series. The plot would sometimes go all over the place but with the promise of another season, I am hopeful that the plot will start making more sense.

Like most shows there must always be something wrong with it or else it wouldn’t be good. It made me wonder why they switched over to sports out of nowhere in between the middle of the series. There also didn’t seem to be any real movement sometimes other than him progressing with the girls, the story seemed to be stagnant as it looked like it was going nowhere. Other than key moments in this show, you would think that this show wasn't really about Sci-Fi, but about Niwa trying to grow up through boyhood, and into a man. I don't think that the show tried to be slice of life at all, but if it was trying to be that way then they really didn't do a good job of it. While the ending didn't make much sense, it made me think something was missing so I looked it up, and I was right. There will be another episode to end this series when they come out with the BD/DVD whenever that comes out.

Sometimes a show doesn't have to be serious or linear to be good, and I think that is why this show is so good and because it doesn't try to be something else then what it intentionally is supposed to be. Funny, lighthearted, and calm are some of the many things that this show represents and while it would be a disappointment if this show doesn't get better when the second season comes out, I am still happy to at least know that I got to watch to show. Also hopefully the 13th episode that is slated to come out will have a good stopping point between the first season, and the second season.  If the three things that I described in this paragraph about this series are the exact opposite of what you’re looking for then don't bother as you probably will not like this series. While there are many bad series coming out in bunches, there is still a bunch of good series coming out as well, and hopefully the rest of this year will have many more good series to come.
