Sekirei Review

Synopsis:
Minato Sahashi is a total loser. He has failed to make it into college twice, he is unpopular with women, and he is unemployed. Despite these problems, he actually has the potential to be an Ashikabi, one of a mysterious set of "masters" leading in a battle royale of 108 cute girls, buxom women, and bishonen called "Sekirei"

Review:
Sekirei is the beginning of something that is potentially both interesting and naughty. There are two different versions of the series one for the shy and one for the real men, but both are equally satisfying. The artwork is very refined and offers a rather sexist view of the female body, but it is definitely above par for an anime. There are a multitude of characters a majority of which are women which isn’t surprising considering the plot of the series. Sekirei’s story has potential to be very good, but there are still too many things that need to be fleshed out.

While many will compare this series to that of Love Hina or Tenchi Muyo, you have to truly look at it as a unique take on a love story.  The draw is clearly heavy chested women fighting half naked, but considering the minimal amount of fighting, it is really about the characters development in the overall plot. Though the story has a long way to develop you can’t help but feel teased by the constant promise of things are going to get interesting. Several of the voice actresses will have you cringing and Tsukiumi’s broken Old English dialect is almost unbearable at times.

Sekirei is definitely a work in progress in almost every aspect aside from the art. While we can assume there will be up to six seasons, it is still bothersome to be continually led on. If you have patience for an interesting take on love stories, or you just love animated breast then this series will certainly fill your time slot. My hopes are high that Sekirei will continue to progress, simply because of the art and a select few characters, but I worry if there is truly an audience to keep this series going. Those that are easily embarrassed or new to anime should seek refuge in another anime, only true animeist are welcome here.
