Kimi ni Todoke Review

Synopsis:
Sawako Kuronuma, called Sadako by her classmates for her resemblance to the character from The Ring, has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance. There are rumors that Sawako can see ghosts and curse people. However, despite her appearances, she is a sweet and timid girl who longs to be able to make friends with everyone and be liked by everyone else. When her idol, popular boy Kazehaya, begins talking with her, everything changes. She finds herself in a new world, trying to make friends and talking to different people and she can't thank Kazehaya enough for giving her these opportunities. Slowly, but surely, a sweet love is blossoming between the two as they will overtake any circumstance or clear obstacles in their way.

Review:
This is one of those series that will make you not want to watch it if you look at the cover, and not read what is inside. What’s inside though is a wonderfully crafted anime that will make your head spin from all the drama it entails. The animation itself was powerful when it came to showing how the character was feeling, and never once did I feel confused about how any of the characters were ever feeling which is awesome because in this sort of setting you kind of want to feel like your invested into what you are watching. I loved how you can see the characters developing in front of your very eyes, and it actually feels like the main characters of the show are actually growing throughout the entire series.

While there are a lot of things that were excellent with this anime there were a few things that didn’t seem to affect the overall story. It got pretty annoying with all the misunderstandings that were in the show, and when I say annoying I mean it was so overboard with the misunderstandings that sometimes it felt like I was watching Kimi ni misunderstanding. There was no reason to have a recap episode in my opinion it was only 24 episodes long without it. The series could have gone without the distortions they have roughly 1 to 20 times per episode and while yes it was funny at times it often just felt as though they were a bit excessive overall.

Overall this series is a must watch if you’re a shoujo watching girl, and any guy who isn't afraid of their sexuality because if your seriously insecure about watching this, and think that only girls should watch this then you are wrong, and possibly need to grow up. Kimi ni Todoke is one of the best there is when it comes to romance and shoujo, and while it could have been better it still is very good at what it tries to present to the viewer. Also don't watch this show if you’re not into slowly developing romance because this is what this show mostly represents. There is a second season of the show already out so expect that to be reviewed shortly after this one.

  1. I completely agree with your assessment of the show. I appreciated the fact that is wasn't a typical over the top harem/sendere (sp)fans service kind of show. don't get me wrong, I enjoy those thing as much as the next guy, but this is a perfect show for us older amine fans (past the age of 25)
