Dragon Crisis! Review

Synopsis:

Review:
Dragon Crisis is by far one of the downfalls of the anime season so far in 2011. There were several great qualities, but no matter how much you focus on them there is no overlooking the obvious problems. It had some wonderful musical scores and I personally fell in love with the ending theme song. Dragon Crisis also sported some wonderful animations and plenty of vibrant colors to help support the characters. You will often find yourself just admiring the beauty and detail put into the most basic of features such as the eyes of a character or the backgrounds. Even with attention to detail visually there was no overlooking the greater issues in this anime.

Dragon Crisis has one of the worst stories I have ever seen translated into an anime. You initially watch the series thinking they will answer the dozens of questions you have from the very beginning. However as you continue watching the series you gain more questions and very seldom receive any answers, which will leave almost anyone frustrated. The characters voice acting is painful at times especially with the character Rose. There is also very little chemistry between the characters and a majority of the more “emotional” scenes just seem awkward. They constantly talk about these amazing dragons but they are rarely ever seen. Which is fine because once the dragons come out there is never any fighting and the combat is usually built up and then ended in one move. Lastly is the noticeable amount of “filler” episodes this series has, it is 12 episodes long, 5 of those episodes were pointless fillers that did nothing to benefit the plot or characters.

I will now take this time to suggest who should watch this series in order of genre. If you like Action/Adventure, then Dragon Crisis has very few fights most of which lack any real action. If you want Comedy, well this series is not funny and when it is supposed to be the humor falls flat. If you want a Harem/Romance, then this anime is also not for you…considering the very few romantic parts make you feel creepy. Moral to the story is that when it comes to anime, I am deeply saddened that they wasted so much time making this anime look amazing and absolutely no time writing a story too match its beauty.
