Astarotte no Omocha! Review

Synopsis:
In the medieval fantasy world of Alfheimr, succubus princess Astarotte Ygvar, the first princess of the kingdom of Ygvarland has just reached the age of 10. For the coming years of a young succubus' life, it is necessary for them to have a male harem. In order to maintain their body and preserve their beautiful appearance, they must consume a substance only found on males. This substance is a liquid called Sauzfryma, better known as semen. The princess, however, bears a great dislike against men, and only agrees to create a harem if a human male is to join, as human males are said to be impossible to find.

Review:
My initial impressions of this series were less than positive especially after reading the synopsis. After getting over the awkward idea of this 10 year old girl having to suck out “life seed” from obviously older men, this series is quite charming. The story does not focus on a sexually frustrated undertone and more on the emotions of each character. The animation and art is bright and colorful which really brings to life the scenery and each vibrant character. Astarotte no Omocha is edgy with the character relationships which actually surprised me how mature they handled certain situations. Musically this series isn’t breakthrough but there are quite a few nice tracks and it always fits the situation. Everything about this series seems bright and bubbly, and aside from some obvious character archetypes I was impressed by how unique every character was to the overall story.

Most of the negative comments you will hear about this series will come from lack of understanding. There are some very questionable ideas in this series such as the mother that already had a child with a guy, and then allowing that exact same guy to date her other daughter from another guy. That strange fact aside the only real downfall is some of the art falling flat with the animation. It’s hard to judge a series when you are unsure if there is another season in the works, but this series did leave some questions to be answered. The biggest issue this series has is nothing really stands out about it, which will leave most just forgetting about this a month from now.

Overall I was impressed that this series was less about awkward sexual moments and more about character relations. It has the obvious main male character that is completely oblivious to everything around him, which is agitating.  I would suggest that you just watch this anime in your free time, because it really doesn’t merit anything important or vital to anime. If you should take anything from this review just be aware that sometimes a summary or synopsis, never truly justifies the value of a series.
